Children, youth & school support

Children, youth & school support for Calgary families

Helping families understand school and community pathways, referrals and accommodations, and prepare to advocate for their child’s needs and participation.

School & community advocacy

For children and youth, disability support often meets education

We help families prepare, organize and take part more effectively, from the first question to the meeting and beyond.

“My child has been diagnosed. What do I do now?”

Many families start with exactly this question. We help you understand the systems around your child and how they connect.

  1. Understand existing recommendations
  2. Prepare questions
  3. Organize relevant documents
  4. Prepare for meetings
  5. Understand available community resources
  6. Identify appropriate professional referrals
  7. Advocate for the child’s needs and participation

Our role

Beside you, not instead of the school

BFF does not replace the school, psychologist or regulated professional. Instead, the navigator helps the family understand the system and participate more effectively in it.

Families often also ask about FSCD, the Child Disability Benefit and the move from child to adult supports at 18. We can help with those too.

Tell us what is happening. We will help you understand the pathway.

You do not need to know which program or service you need before contacting us. Tell us what is happening, and we will help you understand the next step.
