How navigation works
One Door. One Navigator. One Coordinated Pathway.
People should not have to become experts in every system just to access the support they need. You can start by telling us what is happening. You don’t need to know which program, professional or government department you need.

Framework 1 · One Door navigation
One door. One navigator. One coordinated pathway.
Here is what that looks like, step by step.
Connect
Tell us what you need help with.
Understand
We identify the barriers, concerns and priorities.
Map
We identify possible benefits, services and community pathways.
Organize
We help organize existing paperwork, information, questions and next steps.
Navigate
We support you through the appropriate process.
Connect & Refer
We connect you with community, health, disability, education or other appropriate services.
Follow Through
We help identify what happened after the referral and what still needs to be addressed.
Measure
We look at whether you understand your next steps and whether barriers have been reduced.
Framework 2 · Whole-family systems
We look beyond the immediate question
Disability rarely affects only one part of a person’s life. A family may be dealing with all of these at once.
For example
A parent may first ask about the Disability Tax Credit, but during navigation it may become clear that the family also needs respite information, FSCD support, school advocacy or a mental-health referral.
- Health
- Mental health
- School
- Housing
- Income
- Benefits
- Respite
- Caregiving
- Employment
- Community participation
Framework 3 · Closed-loop referral
A referral is more than another phone number
Families are often referred from organization to organization without knowing whether anyone is actually responsible for helping them move forward. The closed loop is how we reduce that.
Outcomes are followed up only with your consent.
- Need identified
- Appropriate service identified
- Referral and contact information provided
- You are supported to connect
- Barriers identified if the connection fails
- Alternative pathway identified where possible
- Outcome followed up, with your consent
The principles underneath
How we deliver every pathway
Benefits navigation
Screen → Map → Prepare → Apply → Follow Up. A structured pathway for disability benefits.
Administrative accessibility
Break the process down. Organize the information. Clarify the next step. Follow through.
Cultural & language access
Plain language, no judgment, and respect for each person’s choices, in several languages.
Lived experience & accessibility
“Is this process actually accessible to the person who has to use it?”
School & community advocacy
Helping families understand the system and take part in it more effectively.
Complex needs
Stabilize, identify interacting barriers, prioritize, coordinate, follow through, reassess.
Measure what matters
Success isn’t only an approval letter
BFF does not control government eligibility decisions, so we don’t measure success only by whether a benefit is approved. We look at whether people:
- Understand their options
- Know their next step
- Complete applications or other actions
- Connect successfully with referred services
- Experience fewer navigation barriers
- Feel more confident navigating systems
Our framework in one line
- Understand the person
- Identify the barriers
- Map the pathway
- Connect the supports
- Follow through
- Measure whether access improved
Tell us what is happening. We will help you understand the pathway.
You do not need to know which program or service you need before contacting us. Tell us what is happening, and we will help you understand the next step.
